Saints reportedly ‘chasing’ Man City defender on loan in League One
Reportedly, SAINTS are interested in signing Jadel Katongo, a promising center-back for Manchester City.
Thus far this season, the 19-year-old has appeared in six league matches while on loan at League One club Peterborough United.
In September, he recorded his first senior goal for Peterborough during their 2-0 EFL Trophy victory over Cambridge United.
After performing admirably as a defender, Katongo is undergoing trials in the midfield as well. His versatility would probably be an asset to any organization that desired to acquire him.
According to The Sun, Southampton are interested in the defender, whose loan with the Posh is set to expire at the end of the current campaign.
Additionally, Burnley was present last week to witness the City academy graduate, according to the report.
Since Katongo has been a member of City’s academy for the past eleven years (since the age of nine), director of football Jason Wilcox will be quite acquainted with him.
Katongo, who is also eligible to represent Zambia, is presently on tour with Sam Edozie and the England Elite League squad.
Recently, Saints have established a pattern of acquiring promising prospects from the academy of Manchester City.
This summer marked the addition of Shea Charles to the senior squad and Josh McNamara to the Southampton Under-21s as goalkeeper.
