REVEALED: Liverpool could have signed 385-goal striker but he was a “risky bet”

Sergio Aguero claims that although he was a Liverpool supporter as a child, the Reds declined an offer to acquire him prior to his transfer to Manchester City.

The lethal striker disclosed in a recent interview with GOAL that he was a fan of the club due to Michael Owen.

“When I was younger, I liked Liverpool because of [Michael] Owen, who had also started as a teenager,” said Aguero. Even while playing on my PlayStation, I attempted to emulate Owen’s style of play!”

Upon reflection, the two Premier League headshunters share a multitude of similarities. Both are exceptionally brief yet swift, with lethal finishing that few have ever matched.

Aguero put an end to his career in 2021, having scored 385 goals for Independiente, Atletico Madrid, Manchester City, and Barcelona prior to his retirement due to cardiac health concerns.

Following his confession that he was a Liverpool devotee as a child, Aguero elaborated on the reason why the Reds never acquired him.

“I honestly wouldn’t know,” he replied. It has been reported that the club refrained from making an offer due to my youth and the perceived risk associated with the transfer fee.

If that is indeed the case, it would be extremely unfortunate. Obviously, Aguero enjoyed tremendous success at Manchester City, but it would have been quite the spectacle to see him in red at Anfield.

However, Liverpool have produced their fair share of world-class forwards, including the Egyptian King Mohamed Salah, who continues to terrorize Premier League defenders and shows no signs of slowing down.
