REVEALED: Chelsea failed to get £250million worth of transfer targets over the transfer window. The list is crazy

Chelsea was one of the most active clubs this summer; however, agreements for Victor Osimhen, Samu Omorodion, Michael Olise, and Nico Williams could have resulted in even more signings.

This summer, Chelsea maintained their spending binge under Todd Boehly, as they welcomed 11 new players to Stamford Bridge.

Nevertheless, the number of arrivals could have been even greater if certain transactions had not been unsuccessful. Enzo Maresca’s new-look squad includes star winger Pedro Neto, trickster Joao Felix, and Manchester United pariah Jadon Sancho, among other newcomers at Chelsea.

The club also made significant investments in development, but they faced criticism for their treatment of certain fringe players. Ben Chilwell, Raheem Sterling, and Trevoh Chalobah were excluded from the first team, a decision that was unpopular with both supporters and pundits.

The situation could have been even more severe had the club been able to secure some of its other transfer targets. This summer, Chelsea’s thwarted attempts to sign Nigerian sensation Victor Osimhen and a collapsed deal for Samu Omorodion have been examined in detail by Star Sport.

Victor Osimhen

Napoli’s Victor Osimhen was eager to depart the Italian club following their failure to qualify for Champions League football, which prompted interest from elite clubs throughout Europe.

Chelsea and French champions Paris Saint-Germain, who were reportedly interested in the Nigerian striker, were both discouraged by the substantial £100 million price tag.

The valuation decreased as the transfer deadline approached, and Chelsea appeared to be on the brink of making a deal, as PSG was no longer involved. A competing offer from Saudi Pro League’s Al Ahli emerged, and a proposed loan deal with a buy option at the conclusion of the season was put forward.

Nevertheless, Osimhen was left without a transfer before the transfer window closed in the majority of countries. The Saudi club instead chose to sign Brentford’s Ivan Toney. However, he was able to negotiate a loan move to Galatasaray as a result of the still-open window in Turkey.

Samu Omorodion

Maresca’s Blues appeared to have secured a transfer agreement with Atletico Madrid earlier this window. This would have resulted in Conor Gallagher travelling to the Spanish capital, while 20-year-old striking sensation Samu Omorodion would have travelled in the opposite direction.

In Madrid, Gallagher was even observed within the stadium when the news broke that Chelsea and Omorodion had failed to reach a personal agreement, resulting in the cancellation of the £35 million transaction.

Ultimately, a deal was reached to allow the England international to conclude his transfer, while Joao Felix returned to Stamford Bridge. In the end, Omorodion also departed the Spanish club, but he opted for a different division.

The young striker has purportedly agreed to a five-year, permanent contract with Portuguese heavyweights Porto, which includes an £85m release clause. During the club’s 2-0 defeat to Sporting CP, he made his debut.

Michael Olise

Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise was contemplating a departure from Selhurst Park as the summer transfer window opened, with Chelsea and a number of other clubs keen to secure his services.

The Blues reportedly made overtures to Palace regarding the possibility of acquiring Olise, and some sources even imply that personal terms were reached. However, a deal never materialised.

Olise, however, elected to transfer to Bayern Munich for a sum of £50 million. This decision was made in time for him to compete for his native France at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where he was awarded a silver medal after losing to Spain 5-3 in the final.

The winger has appeared in three matches since joining his new club, contributing to Bayern’s first two Bundesliga victories and providing an assist in the DFB-Pokal.

Nico Williams

Nico Williams, the Euro 2024 phenomenon from Spain, garnered substantial interest from Premier League clubs this summer as a result of his exceptional performances. Chelsea was among the interested parties.

According to reports, Maresca’s team was prepared to outmanoeuvre their competitors in order to secure Williams’ signature by activating his £48m release clause and providing him with a substantial signing-on incentive.

Nevertheless, the 22-year-old winger elected to remain devoted to his childhood club, Athletic Bilbao, by signing a new contract that will secure his position until 2027.

Chelsea then redirected their attention to Wolves’ Neto, whom they acquired for £54m. They also bolstered their flanks by securing a deadline-day agreement for Sancho.

Murillo

Despite the return of Wesley Fofana from injury and the acquisition of Tosin Adarabioyo this summer, Chelsea continued to seek to bolster their center-half position in the wake of Thiago Silva’s departure.

Chelsea’s wishlist for new centre-back signings was purportedly lead by Nottingham Forest’s Murillo, with a bid exceeding £50 million reportedly submitted. Nevertheless, Forest was adamant about not selling their star defender, and the window closed before Chelsea could finalise the deal, leaving the Blues evidently satisfied with their current defensive line-up.

Murillo has been present on the field for each minute of Forest’s Premier League campaign thus far, conceding only two goals as his team earned five points out of a possible nine.
