On November 15, Manchester United will hold its third stadium Sleep Out, which is an event to encourage fans to help needy teens and young adults this winter.

Supporters will once again be able to give up their beds for the night and sleep in a sleeping bag under the stars in Manchester, with a view of the sacred ground of the Theatre of Dreams.

For the past two years, United fans and club staff have worked together to raise awareness about homelessness and the ongoing problems young people in local communities face. They have also been raising money for the Manchester United Foundation and Centrepoint, a charity that helps young people who are homeless.

John Shiels, CEO of the Manchester United Foundation, said, “We work with young people every day in some of Greater Manchester’s poorest neighborhoods, and prevention and intervention are at the heart of what we do.” One way we try to make a difference in the lives and careers of kids and families is through events like the Sleep Out.

“The Sleep Out last year brought our communities together and raised an amazing £40,000 for the Foundation and Centerpoint. This means that they can continue to make a huge difference in the lives of vulnerable young people.”

“I admire everyone who is willing to show support for those who really need it in the freezing weather, and I urge all of our amazing fans to join us and help us make a difference.”

“We’re excited to be working with Manchester United Foundation for the third year in a row to hold a Sleep Out at Old Trafford,” said Julie Milnes, Fundraising Director at Centrepoint. Half of the money raised will go straight to Centerpoint’s work to help young people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

“A Sleep Out doesn’t try to recreate what it’s like to sleep on the streets; instead, it brings attention to some of the problems that homeless teens and young adults face.” Since a young person is homeless every four minutes, the event is a strong call to make things better. If you raise money for Centrepoint, you can help our services for people sleeping rough and our helpline in Manchester and all over the country. We can end homelessness for good if we all work together.

In the UK between 2022 and 2023, 136,000 young people asked their government for help because they were homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, according to Centerpoint. This shows how desperate the situation is for many people in our area and how important events and support like this are.

The Sleep Out will raise money for the Foundation, which will help both the Foundation and Centerpoint provide these important services to local young people. In 2023–24, the Foundation worked with more than 39,000 young people across Greater Manchester through community and education programs.

Each person who signs up for the Old Trafford Sleep Out must pledge at least £250 to help people in need.

There will be a new part to the event this year: our world network of supporters’ clubs are being asked to hold their own Sleep Outs in support of any charity they choose.

Director of Fan Engagement for Manchester United, Rick McGagh, said, “All of our fans, no matter where they are in the world, are very passionate about supporting the great work of the Foundation.” This year, we’re happy to let fans from all over the world join our Old Trafford Sleep Out.

“Everyone who supports the cause is welcome to hold their own Sleep Out and raise money for a charity of their choice.” Homelessness is a problem in many places around the world, but if we all work together, we can help those in need by giving them support and money.

We’re thrilled to see pictures of Reds working together for this important cause, and we want to thank them for all their help.
