Liverpool
Reason why Liverpool was defeated by Manchester United in the FA CUP Quarter Final match (4-3)
United was right where Liverpool wanted them to be, but they let them off the hook in a dramatic FA Cup loss.
Liverpool still has a strong curse when it comes to the Old Trafford cup.
There was a lot of talk about signs and omens, but the weight of history was always against the Reds winning here. If they did, it would have been their first away win in a knockout game against Manchester United in more than 100 years. But the past isn’t what ended hopes of a triple.
It was mostly Liverpool’s fault that they lost in the FA Cup quarterfinals. That made the game a lot more exciting than it needed to be several times when Jurgen Klopp’s team thought they had won. They then let United come back into the match.
Yes, there was a terrible first quarter in which United attacked the visitors right away, which took them off guard. But Liverpool was much better for about 30 minutes in the second half after going into halftime 2-1 ahead. This showed how much of a difference in skill there is between the two teams in the Premier League this season.
Still, the third goal didn’t come. This could have been because of carelessness with the finishing, good goalkeeping by Andre Onana, or even a little too much comfort.
That’s when Klopp’s substitutions mostly made Liverpool move backwards instead of ahead. Cody Gakpo wasn’t even close to as good as Mohamed Salah, and Conor Bradley had a tough time against Alejandro Garnacho. Harvey Elliott scored the third goal, but he lost the ball that led to United’s late winner.
Some Liverpool players got really tired in extra time, which will almost certainly lead to blame being put on the number of minutes they played in Thursday’s Europa League game against Sparta Prague. United hasn’t done well in Europe this season, so they had a full week to get ready, and it showed in the end.
In fact, Klopp later admitted that this was one game too far for a team that had been hurt a lot—Ibrahim Konate wasn’t even there—but had still managed to keep up the pressure on four fronts.
As for Liverpool fans from a certain era, losing an FA Cup match at Old Trafford in the last minute after being ahead for most of the game was nothing new. 1999 has been in my mind for a long time.
However, they couldn’t really complain that day. This time, as Liverpool made the short trip down the M62, their main feeling would not have been sadness, but regret.
This shouldn’t have happened, even though past events made it seem likely that it would. Klopp will not be able to play at Wembley again as boss of Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp thinks Liverpool is still in a very good spot, even though they missed the chance to win the FA Cup.
Jurgen Klopp is sure that Liverpool is still in a “outstanding situation” this season, even though their hopes of winning all four titles were dashed in a dramatic way.
The Reds lost 4–3 at Manchester United on Sunday in the FA Cup quarterfinal. A goal scored in the last minute of extra time sealed the loss.
They were ahead twice against their bitter North West foes, with goals from Alexis Mac Allister, Mohamed Salah, and substitute Harvey Elliott, but in the end they lost their fifth game of the season.
After the international break, Liverpool won’t play again for two weeks. Their next game is at home against Brighton, who are trying to get back to the top of the Premier League.
Klopp then said, “The players are going to play for their countries. I hope they don’t bring anything back. But then think about Brighton. They can play.” We already know it will be hard.
However, the team is in a great position right now as a whole. We have done absolutely amazing work through all of these tough scenarios. We had a chance to win the game today, and we would have earned it. But United won, and they deserved it.
Klopp said this about the upcoming national team duty: “I just hope they want them to be in good shape in the summer because they play either the Copa or the Euros. I hope they don’t have to play two games with 90 minutes in each.” That would be good, but I can’t do it.
“It’s not cool when the players aren’t there.” I like it a lot when they come here because we can really rest and treat the guys. But this isn’t the first time something like this has happened; it’s the last time for me at Liverpool. We’ll leave after the boys get back in good shape.
Klopp has also denied claims that the way the Reds lost to United will have a big effect on the rest of the season. Liverpool is also getting ready for their Europa League quarterfinal match against Atalanta.
“It’s hard to think straight when you lose an FA Cup quarterfinal,” the Reds manager said. “It would be really hard if we had to deal with people like that.” People have been playing football for a long time, and it’s normal to lose games and feel like you need help because of it.
“You feel it every day, sometimes without even realizing it, and you just go with it.” We’ve lost football games since we were kids, so it’s nothing new for us.
