Gabby Agbonlahor has expressed his opinion on the superiority of Steven Gerrard and Kevin De Bruyne, the midfielders of Manchester City.

The Belgian has now competed at the Etihad Stadium for nine seasons, while the former Liverpool captain spent 17 years in the Merseyside club’s senior side.

One pundit and former top-flight player has shared his perspective on the duo’s ranking among the greatest midfielders in Premier League history, given their extensive tenure in the league.

When asked whether he would include De Bruyne in his top five list of all-time Premier League midfielders, Agbonlahor responded this way during an interview with talkSPORT.

He stated, “I am still unable to place him at the top of my list; I apologize; he is my second choice, following Steven Gerrard.”

“I will begin by evaluating Steven Gerrard, followed by De Bruyne, Frank Lampard, Paul Scholes, and David Silva.

“Steven Gerrard was everything to me in the Premier League.” De Bruyne is exceptional; however, I must assign him to the second position.

“I am not evaluating their achievements, as De Bruyne has won significantly more, but Steven Gerrard should be placed in the first position in my opinion.”

Gerrard versus De Bruyne
Gerrard scored 121 goals and provided 97 assists in 504 Premier League appearances for Liverpool, but he was unable to secure a single title.

In contrast, De Bruyne has amassed 68 goals and provided 114 assists in his 260 appearances in the top tier, during which he has also won six titles.

Agbonlahor’s designation of the two as the greatest midfielders in Premier League history is comprehensible, despite the fact that the City star has experienced the joys of being an English champion, while Gerrard does not.
