Pogačar plans to go for the Tour de France in 2025, but not the Paris-Roubaix. He is still not sure whether to go for the Giro or the Vuelta.
In 2025, Tadej Pogačar wants to win his fourth Tour de France. After that, he wants to win either the Giro d’Italia or the Vuelta a España, so that he can compete in two Grand Tours in one season.
The head of UAE Team Emirates also wants to win the UCI Road World Championships in Rwanda, Strade Bianche, Milan-San Remo, and the Tour of Flanders in 2025. In 2025, he won’t ride Paris-Roubix.
PogaÍar’s season will revolve around defending his Tour de France title. The Giro d’Italia in May or the Vuelta a España in August will rest on the routes of the two Grand Tours. Teams have been told clues about the Giro d’Italia route, but UAE Team Emirates is still waiting for the Vuelta to be announced on December 19.
The UAE Team Emirates Sports Manager, Joxean Matxin Fernandez, said at the team’s media day before Pogačar spoke about his plans, “We need to wait for the Vuelta presentation to make a decision.”
Right now, he’s focused on the Tour de France. He’ll make up his mind after the Vuelta introduction. Of course, he’ll ride in the Vuelta at some point, but that’s still up in the air.
Is Pogaëar going to do three Grand Tours?
“Not this year,” Matxin said for sure.
Other Grand Tour leaders, like Juan Ayuso, João Almeida, and Adam Yates, have race plans that rely on what PogaÍar plans for the Giro and Vuelta. Should Pogaëar decide to ride the Vuelta in the end, Ayuso and Yates could race in Italy in May.
After being away for two years, Pogaëar will start his 2025 season at the UAE Tour. He has a good chance of winning UAE Team Emirates’ third home race. From February 17th to February 23rd, the UAE Tour will happen.
After that, on March 8, he will go to Italy for the Strade Bianche. On March 22, he will ride in Mulan-San Remo. On April 6, he will go to Belgium for the Tour of Flanders. For a cobbled Classics season, he should also ride the E3 Saxo Classic and Gent-Wevelgem. Later in April, he will focus on the Ardennes Classics.
Pogaëar will get ready for the Tour de France by riding the Critérium du Dauphiné in June, most likely after a camp at a high altitude.
If PogaÍar rides the Vuelta a España, the second half of his season will be different. The World Championships road race is in Kigali, the city of Rwanda, on September 28. It will take time to get there and get used to racing at high altitude in Africa.
