PL club join PSG and Atletico Madrid in a bid to sign Man City forward
There is a growing interest in the transfer of Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez in anticipation of the summer window.
In July 2022, the 24-year-old concluded a £14 million transfer to the Etihad Stadium after achieving early success in South America. Since joining Manchester City, he has won six trophies, including the UEFA Champions League and two Premier League titles.
The Argentinian striker has scored 36 goals since his arrival in east Manchester and was directly involved in 30 goals for the Sky Blues during the 2023/24 campaign.
After assisting Argentina in their FIFA World Cup victory in Qatar, Alvarez was granted a one-year contract extension in March 2023. The forward had previously appeared in 103 matches for Pep Guardiola’s team.
Manchester City’s striker, who appeared in 54 matches during the most recent campaign, was relegated to an advanced midfield position as a consequence of Kevin De Bruyne’s extended absence following hamstring surgery.
However, the 24-year-old has only made six starts for the Sky Blues since the turn of the year and is in competition with Erling Haaland, who has scored 90 goals for Manchester City since his arrival from Borussia Dortmund for £51 million.
It is anticipated that Etihad officials will attempt to secure Alvarez’s services for at least one more campaign. However, they are expected to receive a series of offers from clubs throughout Europe this summer to contract the Argentina international.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are both interested in signing the 24-year-old, with “several clubs keen” to attempt to conclude a transfer for the Manchester City forward.
Gaston Edul has suggested that there is a “possibility” that an unnamed top-flight English club may submit an offer for Alvarez, which also suggests that the Sky Blues may be anticipating interest from other Premier League teams.
Manchester City are purportedly interested in retaining Alvarez, as the club is preparing for another substantial squad reorganization in preparation for the 2024/25 season. A number of prominent players, including senior teammates Kevin De Bruyne and Ederson, are being linked with potential summer departures.
