Diego Pablo Torres, the new star of Spanish cycling and the UAE Team Emirates, has talked about Tadej Pogacar. He is thrilled to be on the Emirati team and makes it clear that he is loving his first week at training camp in Benidorm with the team.

Torres told Laura Meseguer of Eurosport, “I knew more or less how the team worked because I had seen them race last year, in some races I’d ridden with the WorldTour team, and at last year’s training camp, so I wasn’t surprised at all.” Yes, I’m happy with how they treat you; everyone is paying close attention to you, and the mood is great. I believe we all get along great, and we thoroughly enjoy it.

For Pogacar, racing on the same team and going up against the man who has always been his idol is a privilege: “Tadej has been my idol since I started cycling; he was already in the top tier of cycling and has been the rider who has inspired me the most to get here and continues to inspire me every day.” His presence on the team is truly amazing. What an amazing experience it was to meet him at the hotel. He’ll always be the best rider I’ve ever known because he’s such an inspiration.

“He’s a very nice guy, I like him a lot, but I still see him as an idol,” Pablo Torres said about riding with the World Champion on the best cycling team in the world. This shows how mature and humble he is. I’m still getting used to being on the team even though I’ve only been here for a short time.

“You don’t even notice how fast time goes by, and I’m still just a normal kid doing what he wants.” I don’t know all the people who encourage and back me up. He will always be a hero to me, and I will still act like an idol to him.

The Spanish golfer just turned 19 months old, but next month at the Tour Down Under, he will play in his first World Tour event. Even though a Grand Tour isn’t likely to happen this year yet, Torres has already put on some amazing climbing shows this year that have raised a lot of expectations.
