No matter what month it is, Pogacar keeps winning: “I’m very grateful to Trentin and his team”

With 25 official wins and one more private win last Sunday, Tadej Pogacar had an amazing year. In Monaco, where he lives, the UAE Team Emirates star won the Beking Criterium. It rained and was cold when Pogacar won this charity event that was started by Matteo Trentin in 2021. In the same year that he won, Pogacar also renewed his deal with UAE Team Emirates until 2030.

A strong field of riders again showed up for the fourth Monaco criterium. Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) and Michael Matthews (Jayco AlUla) joined Pogacar on the podium. Aside from the organiser, Matteo Trentin, other well-known players were Tim Wellens (UAE Team Emirates), Elia Viviani (INEOS Grenadiers), Matej Mohoric (Bahrain Victorious), and Trentin himself.

After winning another race by himself, Pogacar told Monaco Reporter, “Beking is a great event, and I’m always happy to take part.” It’s great to win here because we don’t race here very often. I appreciate Matteo and his team’s work in setting up this event for a good cause. The excited world champion said, “It’s important for the sport, for the environment, and for the core values that Beking stands for.”

Bad weather makes things hard for the organisers in many ways.

Even though it was raining in Monaco, the event’s organiser, Matteo Trentin, thought it was another big success. “This year the weather put us to the test, but my coworkers and sponsors didn’t leave us out in the cold.” Trentin said, “We are so grateful for their help.”

The weather made it unclear whether the event could go ahead, but a shorter course made it possible for the race to go ahead. “We all got together in the morning and chose to go ahead with it.” It was wonderful… Definitely a place to remember. “Once again, we pulled it off,” the proud Italian said.
