Neal Maupay, a former Everton forward, made Virgil van Dijk laugh during the match.
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk laughed in the face of Neal Maupay, who used to play forward for Everton, because Maupay was shocked by a clearance made by van Dijk.
In the summer, Maupay left Everton to join Marseille. He spent most of last season on loan at Brentford. Even though he played three times for Everton in all competitions last season, he returned to the Bees on loan on the last day of the season.
When he played for Brentford against Liverpool at Anfield last year, the 28-year-old, who often makes fans angry on social media, his team easily won 3-0. Unfortunately for Liverpool, Maupay could have scored at one point in the game if Van Dijk hadn’t made a brilliant clearance from a corner.
Bryan Mbuemo sent a corner into the box, and Christian Norgaard of Brentford jumped at the front post to flick the ball on just in time for Maupay to tap it in.
But Van Dijk was able to turn around and clear the ball, stopping Maupay from scoring easily. After the free kick, Van Dijk was seen smiling, but Maupay’s shock was clear to everyone.
Virgil van Dijk is happy about his release.
Maupay couldn’t believe they didn’t score.
This is why Van Dijk laughed at Maupay after his amazing clearance stopped the forward from scoring a tap-in goal, Van Dijk told Premier League Uncut host Makai Fray.
“Get that out of there.” “What I like about this is that you smiled right after,” Fray told Van Dijk. “Because I think he [Neal Maupay] said something like, ‘How did you manage to get that out?’ or something like that,” the Liverpool captain replied. But I think Brentford is very good from set pieces, especially since I remember this game. At this point, I was in the zone at the back post.
I always thought that they would get first touch at the first post because they had big guys there. After that, it was all about how I responded, and I did well.”
He then said, “Concentration, concentration is huge.” It’s not simple to do that. Focused and always on—make sure you’re in the best shape possible before, because these days everything is decided by small gaps and split-second choices. “These things really do help.”
The site says: “You suspect that even though he played for Everton, Liverpool fans might quite like Neal Maupay, especially after he compared Goodison Park to Shawshank Prison after his move from the Toffees to Marseille was confirmed this summer.”
