Moving Wrong? Two ex-Celtic players are fighting for EFL game time.
Daniel Kelly and Rocco Vata, two young players with a lot of potential, have had a hard time getting minutes since they left Celtic for the English Championship to play for a first team.
The two players have played a total of 138 minutes this season, which makes people wonder if the move has helped or hurt their growth.
Daniel Kelly, who is 19 years old and recently joined Millwall, has only played 18 minutes in two league games and 45 minutes in the cup. It’s been a rough start for a player who wants to play regularly, especially since he could have played more if he had stayed at Celtic.
Kelly’s exit did, however, make room for the Hoops to sign Luke McCowan, who has been a great addition to Brendan Rodgers’ team.
Rocco Vata, on the other hand, has played in a few more games—nine total, six league games and three cup games.
Even though he has played more minutes, his move hasn’t yet led to a regular part. If he had stayed at Celtic, he might not have played much either, maybe just in cup games like the match against Hibs or the occasional cameo.
But since Adam Idah was hurt and couldn’t play, Vata might have had a better chance to step up in the coming weeks if he had stayed.
The two players left Celtic in search of bigger roles, but things haven’t gone so well so far. Long-term, they need regular playing time to grow. Only time will tell if their choice to move south was the right one or if they would have done better with more minutes in Glasgow.
