Mavs’ King of the Court: Star Weighs In on LeBron James Amid Trade Rumors

In private, Kyrie Irving has long advocated for a trade between the Mavericks and the Los Angeles Lakers in which James would be the recipient.

Privately, Kyrie Irving has advocated for the Dallas Mavericks to acquire LeBron James from the Los Angeles Lakers during the upcoming offseason.

Although James just inked a $104 million, two-year deal with the Lakers, rumors have circulated that he could join Steph Curry on the Warriors.

But according to Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes from 2023, Irving was originally heavily favoured by the Mavs to trade with the Lakers, which would have brought the 33-year-old back together with James.

The reunion plot involving LeBron James and Kyrie Irving has taken a surprising turn, according to league sources who spoke with Bleacher Report.

According to what Haynes wrote at the time, Irving is hoping that the Dallas Mavericks will consider trading for LeBron James this upcoming offseason so that he, Luka Doncic, and himself can form a Big Three.

Meanwhile, Mavs center Anthony Davis’ comments on James earlier in the year will only stoke the flames of the NBA’s all-time point scorer moving to Dallas.

AD admitted in March that he is keeping personal ties with James warm, which would heighten speculation over a potential switch

“We still talk to those guys. I’ve been with [James] the longest, six-and-a-half years. We’ve been really close, but nothing has changed,” Davis is quoted as saying by Clutch Points earlier this year.

Obviously, we don’t talk hang like we used to just because of the teams and stuff. But I’m sure we will get together over this summer and try to figure it out.”

Mavs star Klay Thompson also spoke of James’ greatness back in January after he hit his 16,000th career point.

Thompson has bounced-back impressively to two previously-career ending injuries to reach the incredible achievement.
