Mason Mount transfer to Manchester United might be the major setback for Chelsea as they face serious sanction

Not only would Chelsea lose more points than Nottingham Forest and Everton, but they could lose “more severe” points than both of them if they are found guilty of breaking financial fair play rules. The interesting thing is that Mason Mount’s move to Manchester United may be at the heart of this.

Everyone is talking about how much the Blues have spent on new players since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over in 2022. They have bought over £1 billion worth of players.

As per the Premier League’s earnings and sustainability rules, teams can’t lose more than £105 million in three years.

Both Everton and Forest have been found guilty of breaking the rules and have got points taken away. The first team lost four points and is now in the relegation zone. Everton, on the other hand, lost six points after an appeal was successful and the number was lowered from 10 to 6.

Mauricio Pochettino’s team hasn’t been charged yet, but it’s likely that they will have to sell some of their high-paid players to make ends meet at Stamford Bridge, especially since they might miss out on European football for the second year in a row. Stefan Borson, a financial expert, talked to talkSPORT about the harsh punishments the Londoners could get if they are found to have broken FFP rules.

Stefan Borson: Chelsea expects to lose a lot.

Stefan Borson, a financial expert, thinks that Chelsea could lose a lot more points than the two teams that have already been punished.

“Possibly more severe (than Forest and Everton),” he said on TalkSPORT.

“I think the losses they’re predicting right now are much bigger than what Everton and Nottingham Forest could handle.”

The move to Mason Mount

“There was an assumption with Mason Mount because it was announced on Manchester United’s website on July 1 that [his sale] had been put off until this season,” he said about Chelsea. That’s how the £55 million profit came in this season. It turns out that Mason Mount was bought and sold in 2022 or 2023, which is how they got around the FFP rules.

Mason Mount has only played 13 times for Manchester United, starting seven of those games. He has only helped set up one goal, which happened in the League Cup. After being hurt, he came back on Sunday and played in the 4–3 FA Cup win over Liverpool off the bench.
