Mason Greenwood’s screamer for Getafe humiliates five Manchester United stars
On Saturday, Mason Greenwood scored an outstanding long-range goal for Getafe, which embarrassed a number of Manchester United players.
Mason Greenwood’s equalizer for Getafe in their La Liga match against UD Almeria on Saturday served as a poignant reminder of his devastating prowess in the area of goal. This season, the 22-year-old has embarrassed five Manchester United forwards as the attacking department of Erik ten Hag continues to struggle.
Greenwood is on loan at Getafe for the 2023–24 season after a summer transfer deadline day departure was precipitated by United’s rumored late U-turn on his return.
In addition, he scored his fourth goal since his return to action on Saturday, kicking off a revival in the first half at the Alfonso Perez Coliseum.
Greenwood executed a signature cut inside from the left before launching a rocketing shot past Luis Maximiano from outside the box.
In front of an ebullient home crowd, the former United No. 11 enthusiastically celebrated his goal by doing a knee slide and embracing his teammates.
Borja Mayoral scored a second-half goal to reverse an early 1-0 deficit created by Largie Ramazani, another former academy sensation for the Red Devils.
Greenwood demonstrated a comprehensive performance throughout the first half, achieving an 81% pass accuracy rate and finishing two of his three take-ons and duels.
In recent weeks, the England international has been on fire, contributing to five goals in his last four appearances.
At the beginning of the month, Greenwood scored twice in a 12-0 Copa del Rey first-round victory over Tardienta. Against Cadiz and Granada, he provided assists.
The previous month, against Celta Vigo, he scored his first goal for Getafe, shortly after providing an assist against Athletic Club.
Greenwood’s four goals this season are more than any senior United forward with the exception of Rasmus Hojlund, who has scored five goals in the Champions League since joining for £72 million in the summer.
Hojlund, who inherited Greenwood’s No. 11, joins Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes, and Casemiro (all four goals) as the only United players to have scored three goals this season.
Marcus Rashford has only managed one goal in sixteen appearances. Conversely, Alejandro Garnacho has done so. What is Anthony Martial? One in fifteen.
Antony and Jadon Sancho, Facundo Pellistri, and Amad Diallo have all failed to score. However, Amad has been sidelined by injury and Pellistri, in contrast to the former tandem, has at least contributed an assist.
It is not anticipated that Greenwood will rejoin United in the upcoming summer, notwithstanding the remaining year on his contract.
However, he shares the feat of Anthony Elanga, who has scored three goals since his £15 million summer transfer to Nottingham Forest, of surpassing the capabilities of Ten Hag’s current selections.
