Manchester United is prepared to pursue Bayern Munich ace should he decline a renewal offer from Bayern.
BILD reports that Manchester United would be interested in signing Thomas Muller from Bayern Munich if the latter declines to extend his contract that expires next summer.
The German international has been with the Bavarian champions his entire career. Despite contributing to seven goals this season, he has only averaged forty minutes per game.
BILD asserts that the player and the club have not yet reached a mutual agreement regarding a contract extension, which could result in his departure at the conclusion of the current season on a free transfer.
United have been linked to the 34-year-old for some time, and the German publication claims they would be prepared to seize the opportunity if he decided to leave Bayern.
In addition to the Red Devils, several clubs from the United States and Saudi Arabia continue to monitor Muller, who has frequently filled in for Thomas Tuchel this season.
Muller, whose nearly 700 appearances have earned him the unofficial Bundesliga website’s ‘world-class’ moniker, is an already legendary figure at Bayern.
It would be unexpected if the German, who has been a pivotal member of Bayern for the past sixteen years, decided to depart the club in the late stages of his career.
Muller’s preferred retirement location would be in Munich. Christoph Freund, the sporting director of Bayern Munich, recently confirmed to DAZN that the club will negotiate a new contract with Muller within the coming weeks.
We believe that the speculation is entirely motivated by an agent seeking to expedite the renewal procedure.
Muller was previously admired by United, but the club is improbable to pursue the signing of a player in his twilight who could demand a substantial weekly salary.
The sporting operations are soon to be overseen by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who has already raised doubts regarding Manchester United’s acquisition of Casemiro. Muller is comparable to the initial group. There will simply be no agreement.
