Manchester City set asking price for key man following £900,000 weekly wage offer

Manchester City officials are becoming increasingly concerned about the future of custodian Ederson in light of the Brazilian’s offer of £900,000 per week.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper, who has been at the Etihad Stadium since a £35 million transfer from Benfica in 2017, has been associated with a lucrative transfer to Saudi Arabia this summer. In Saudi Arabia, the goalkeeper could compete alongside former Manchester City counterpart Aymeric Laporte and Portugal legend Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ederson has appeared in 332 matches since relocating from the Portuguese top-flight to east Manchester. In May, he secured his sixth English top-flight title as Manchester City won the Premier League for the fourth year in a row, setting a new record.

Although Ederson was unable to participate in the Premier League finale against West Ham and the FA Cup Final defeat to Manchester United as a result of a facial fracture, the shot-stopper made 43 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s team during the most recent campaign.

Ederson sustained the injury during a pivotal 0-2 victory over Tottenham in north London. Since then, the custodian has been challenged by Stefan Ortega in the 2023/24 campaign, as the German has initiated crucial matches against both Real Madrid and Arsenal.

Ortega has already pledged his future to Manchester City this summer by signing a new one-year contract that will extend until 2026. This decision was made in response to unexpected transfer interest from Chelsea, his Premier League rivals.

Ederson’s future is uncertain, despite the fact that Manchester City began pre-season preparations this month. The Daily Star reports that the Brazilian was offered £900,000 per week by Saudi Pro League team Al-Nassr.

Etihad executives are “increasingly concerned” that they will lose the 30-year-old to the Middle East this summer, following the blockbuster contract offer. Ederson was promised a salary that is more than four times his current weekly wage.

Manchester City officials are purportedly amenable to providing the first-choice custodian with an enhanced contract, despite the fact that any contract offer would not approach the figures proposed by the Saudi Pro League club.

Nevertheless, Al-Nassr will be required to pay a substantial transfer fee in order to acquire the 30-year-old Brazilian international, as the Sky Blues are expected to request £50 million in order to dispose of him.

Last summer, Manchester City sold two players to the Saudi Pro League. Additionally, there is concern regarding the destiny of custodian Ederson. Three additional players have also been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.

Kevin De Bruyne, Kyle Walker, and Matheus Nunes are all additional targets for the division. De Bruyne has previously declined to rule out an exit from the Etihad Stadium in favour of a high-value transfer.
