Ederson, the goalie for Manchester City, was taken off during their Premier League game against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

Goalkeeper Ederson got hurt just 11 minutes into the second half of Manchester City’s Premier League match against Liverpool at Anfield and had to leave the game.

The Brazilian goalie hit Darwin Nunez, a striker for Liverpool, just three minutes after the game started. He was rushing out to try to beat the Uruguayan to a back pass from Nathan Ake, a defender for City. He hit the former Benfica player hard, which led to Liverpool getting a penalty.

John Stones scored the first goal of the game, but Alexis Mac Allister scored to tie the game. But that wasn’t until Ederson had been treated by the City’s medical team.

He was able to take the penalty, but he went down again a few minutes later. It was clear that the collision with Nunez hurt him. He was finally kicked off, and Stefan Ortega took his place.

Two club medical staff, a member of St. John’s Ambulance, and Kyle Walker were all around Ederson, checking on his health. The shot-stopper was strong enough to walk off the field instead of being brought off on a stretcher. He went straight down the tunnel after being taken off.

Before he was taken out too soon, the Brazilian hadn’t been pushed much—he had only had to make one save. Both City and Liverpool played without their first-choice goalkeepers after he left, with Alisson missing the game for the home team from the start because of an illness.

Ederson has started all but one of City’s 28 Premier League games this season. The only game he didn’t start was October 9, when City beat Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium. Pep Guardiola, the manager of City, will almost certainly give a report on the goalkeeper in his press conference after the game.
