Man Utd may have to tweak Mason Greenwood agreement after ‘attractive offer’

The “attractive offer” is accompanied by a stipulation regarding Mason Greenwood.

Reportedly, Getafe are already considering extending the loan of Mason Greenwood, who joined the Spanish club at the beginning of this season. However, given the increased probability of a subsequent loan agreement rather than a permanent transfer, Manchester United might be obligated to demand a more substantial monetary remuneration in exchange for his assistance.

In the summer, Greenwood was transferred to Getafe subsequent to the Red Devils’ decision to sever relations with the 22-year-old after an internal investigation lasting six months examined his behavior. The player was previously the subject of a criminal case that contained charges of attempted rape and assault. However, the case was voluntarily dismissed in February.

The Sun reports that while Greenwood remains a United player until June 2025, Getafe are attempting to retain him at Estadio Coliseum. “Getafe have discussed attempting to bring United to the table so they can make an offer that they believe could be attractive to United in order to remove Mason from their wage bill,” a source told the British tabloid.

“The more probable outcome is that United will extend Mason’s loan, given their knowledge that he is content and in the process of rebuilding his life.” They desire for him to mature and are cognizant of the fact that the Getafe loan has thus far been beneficial for all parties involved.

In order to facilitate the recovery of funds, it would be advantageous for United to reach a loan agreement with Getafe for a second season of play. At the moment, United is covering the preponderance of Getafe’s “small contribution” of his weekly wages of £75,000.

Conversely, the La Liga club failed to remit a loan fee in accordance with the terms of their prior agreement. Manchester United will pay Greenwood an additional £6 million if he continues to play for the club beyond the expiration of his contract in eighteen months.

The English forward’s arrival at Getafe has been met with a variety of reactions. Since his loan was renewed in September, he has composed ten appearances for the club across all competitions, accumulating three goals.

Prior to making his Getafe début on September 17, 2022, he had been sidelined for over 18 months, during a 3–2 La Liga victory over Osasuna. His first goal for the club, scored in October during a 2-2 draw with Celta Vigo, was his first since January 2022.
