Man United starlet is apparent solution to £200million Manchester United dilemma

This week, Manchester United youth Facundo Pellistri made headlines once more while away on international duty.

In the past three years, Manchester United have spent more than £200 million on four right wingers, but it is the least expensive of them all who could provide the solution they have been seeking in that position.

United only has one right winger who routinely starts at the international level: Facundo Pellistri. His most recent accomplishments for Uruguay occurred when Jadon Sancho and Antony were both overlooked by their respective countries.

Antony, who was 21 years old when his team defeated reigning world champions Argentina this week, was secretly representing a U21 side against Hull City in a friendly. Sancho’s future with the club is uncertain; he is expected to depart in January.

The right side of attack exemplifies United’s lack of long-term planning and reactionary approach to transfers more than any other position.

Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Sancho was the club’s primary target; however, the club declined Borussia Dortmund’s exorbitant £108 million valuation of the player. As time ran out in the transfer window, they expedited their preparations to pay a combined £46 million on deadline day to acquire Pellistri and Amad.

Both were highly regarded as adolescents, but their aspirations of ever making it to Manchester United were thwarted the following summer when United acquired Sancho for a mere £73 million. It subsequently became evident that he performed considerably better on the left side as opposed to the right.

After Solskjaer was dismissed, Erik ten Hag was appointed manager, providing a fresh start and the chance to initiate a new signing on the right wing. They reluctantly pursued Antony before ultimately agreeing to an enormous £86 million transfer fee for the former Ajax star.

After another year, there is still no right flanker who stands out. Antony remains Ten Hag’s primary target; however, due to his lackluster performances, Marcus Rashford has been substituted in place of him as a temporary solution.

It is widely acknowledged that Marcus Rashford has a preference for the left flank. However, should he remain on the right for the time being, they will still need to devise an alternative strategy in the event that he is suspended for their crucial match against Galatasaray.

Ten Hag has emphasized the importance of consistency for United to regain form and reverse their fortunes this season; therefore, establishing a reliable right wing option will be crucial to that end. If that selection were predicated on form, Pellistri would be the frontrunner for the journey to Everton the following week.

He not only worked tirelessly to win the ball back for the game-winning goal in United’s late victory at Fulham as a substitute, but he also excelled at the international level this week.

Already having appeared in sixteen senior appearances for Uruguay, three of which were at the World Cup the year prior, he has earned the confidence of Marcelo Bielsa and is a crucial component of his future plans.

Pellistri completed more dribbles than any other player on the field as his country defeated Argentina on Thursday night. The directness and determination of his throwback wing approach caused difficulties.

However, he has not been accorded the same level of confidence at the club level. Following his game-winning assist at Craven Cottage, he has not appeared as a substitute in either the Copenhagen or Luton Town contests.

Although Ten Hag admires the adolescent, he believes he is still a bit too lightweight to play regular football in the Premier League, and it is also important to note that he has never truly excelled in the starting position.

Presently, he is more aptly suited for a bench impact role; the primary criticism is that he has not been granted the number of cameo appearances or an opportunity to dispel skepticism that he likely merits.

A loan transfer for Pellistri the following season could provide him with the consistent playing time he needs to advance, but that should not be considered until he has been given a sustained opportunity with the United squad.

United have been committing errors on the right side.
