Man United man was absolutely class for Manchester United again, he won’t get the credit
Andre Onana is demonstrating why Manchester United had faith in him despite his struggles early in the season by pushing to acquire him.
At the very least, it is difficult to receive praise for a goalkeeper, but imagine that in a match where a 19-year-old prodigy scores a sensational overhead kick.
However, Andre Onana deserves special recognition for yet another extremely assured performance in Manchester United’s 3-0 victory over Everton at Goodison Park.
Onana’s potential absence had generated some apprehension following the injury he sustained while on international duty for Cameroon. He thankfully did so.
Andre Onana has exhibited remarkable progress as a player since he saved Copenhagen’s penalty kick at home in October.
The goalkeeper maintained another clean sheet to move to the top of the Premier League standings in this regard.
Onana was confronted with a substantial workload, requiring six saves despite an Expected Goals figure of 1.31 and a completion rate of 66% on his passes.
He comfortably captured a point-blank header from Dominic Calvert-Lewin as one of his saves.
It appears that even the defenders of Manchester United have faith in Onana. United successfully contained Everton with their stout defense, while the Toffees were culpable for some shoddy execution.
The fact that Onana is transforming from a liability to an asset for Manchester United is an extremely positive omen for the club’s future. In the summer, United paid £43 million for him; that amount may increase to £47 million.
Since his arrival at Manchester United, certain segments of the press have criticized Andre Onana, with many awaiting his failure.
Initial attempts were not successful. His errors in the team’s two initial games of the Champions League have caused the club to continue to struggle.
The magnitude of this criticism remains insufficient in comparison to the acclaim he has garnered since regaining his form.
That is to be expected on a day when the headlines were dominated by the attacking players; such is the nature of the position of goalkeeper. Therefore, we shall instead laud his praises.
