Man United boss Erik ten Hag lashes out at critics after humiliating loss to Liverpool, says “I am not Harry Potter.”
Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, responded to criticism in the aftermath of his team’s 3-0 loss to Liverpool.
In a fraught post-match press conference, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag acknowledged that he is “not Harry Potter” in the wake of his team’s 3-0 defeat to Liverpool. He then responded to criticism regarding his coaching methods.
On Sunday afternoon, Liverpool defeated their acrimonious rivals at Old Trafford with a Luis Diaz brace and a Mohamed Salah goal, resulting in the Red Devils’ second consecutive Premier League defeat.
“I am not interested in discussing positives today,” the Dutchman stated in response to Manchester United’s loss. “There are a few.” However, we must accept this humiliation. It is difficult for us, particularly our supporters. We must remain humble and offer our gratitude to Liverpool, but we must also progress.
Manuel Ugarte, who was signed for £53million on a deadline day, was unable to make his debut in midfield. Arne Slot’s team capitalised on two Casemiro errors, and the Brazilian was substituted at halftime. However, Ten Hag acknowledged that it may take some time before the Uruguayan international is thoroughly integrated into the team.
“We must integrate him into the team,” he stated. “It will require time; therefore, I am not comparable to Harry Potter.” That is the reality that you must recognise.
“And if you observe Manuel Ugarte, he did not play for the entire season.” Not a single minute of match time. Therefore, he must increase his fitness level, and subsequently, we must integrate him into the team. I am confident that he will be a valuable asset and contribute to our team. However, this process may require several weeks or even months.
Casemiro’s disastrous performance followed a poor close to the previous season for the Brazilian, necessitating that Ten Hag refute rumours that the 32-year-old had exited the stadium at halftime.
“I met him after the game in the dressing room, so he didn’t leave the stadium at half-time,” Ten Hag stated further. “I replaced him because Liverpool, with their exceptional qualities, is a formidable opponent, and we are currently trailing by 2-0.”
“We were compelled to take risks in order to recover. In order to do so, we required players in the midfield to cover ground. Consequently, we deployed Toby Collyer on the pitch.” I believe that in the sport of football, it is imperative that all individuals assume responsibility. I am confident that he is a remarkable individual who has achieved everything imaginable in his professional life. I am confident that he will continue to make valuable contributions to our squad, and Casemiro’s consistent success ensures that he will be present.
Ten Hag also responded with a fiery demeanour to a journalist who enquired about whether his team’s recurring deficiencies were attributable to the players or the guidance.
“What do you mean?” The journalist raised the issues of giving the ball away on their own half, errors playing out from the back, being outnumbered on counter-attacks, and giving up chances. Ten Hag responded, “Perhaps you can explain to me with the mistakes that we make regular?”
“Are you certain?” Ten Hag enquired. “I do not believe so, as you would not have been able to defeat such formidable opponents and win trophies in the manner that we did.” I am sad for your situation. We secured the most trophies subsequent to City. I apologise for your situation.
Ten Hag also maintained that his team’s circumstances will improve, despite the fact that they have only secured one of the nine Premier League points available thus far.
“We must establish a new team in just the third game of the season.” I must reiterate this numerous times, and I will also do so during the press conference on Friday. We will construct this new team with inexperienced players who will be developed throughout the season. Three players made their first appearance of the season, but they did not play for the full 90 minutes.
“We will be fine, but it is clear we have to improve and in the end of the season I quite am confident we will have a big chance to lift another trophy.”
Southampton will be the opponent for the Red Devils in their inaugural match following the international break on Saturday, September 14.
