Man United agreement will cause concern for Virgil van Dijk and Man City star as negotiations continue.

The transfer target for Manchester United is Two of Matthijs de Ligt’s international comrades have previously praised him, as he played under Erik ten Hag at Ajax.

Virgil van Dijk and Nathan Ake will be apprehensive if Manchester United is able to secure one of their primary targets this summer.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is responsible for football operations, is seeking to enhance United’s capabilities in a variety of areas during the initial closed season. The acquisition of Matthijs de Ligt, a defender from Bayern Munich, is believed to be in progress. De Ligt previously played for Ajax under Erik ten Hag.

Sky Sports Germany reports that Ten Hag is “still a big fan” of the 24-year-old, who joined Bayern from Juventus for approximately £68 million two years ago, and that negotiations are continuing. In the summer of 2019, Juve, in turn, paid a comparable sum to Ajax. It is rumoured that the Bavarian titans are amenable to selling at the appropriate price.

His Premier League colleagues hold De Ligt in high regard, as he is currently representing the Netherlands at Euro 2024. Van Dijk touted him as a future hero of the game as early as 2019, when he was associated with Liverpool. He stated, “He is an exceptional defender, that is evident.”

“He can still improve a lot and he realises that, but playing like he does at that age is fantastic and I’m really happy to play beside him [for the Netherlands].”

Ake has recently praised De Ligt. The Manchester City defender compared him to Van Dijk, stating in an interview with Goal that “De Ligt is still so young, but he has played so many games in top-flight football and for the Dutch national team.” What he is currently undertaking is truly remarkable.

Van Dijk and Ake will be aware of the calibre of the player that United will acquire if they are able to sign De Ligt, who has not yet made an appearance at Euro 2024, as Ronald Koeman favours a centre-back partnership of Van Dijk and Stefan de Vrij. The 24-year-old is still widely regarded as a top central defender in Europe, despite his lack of appearances in Germany. Despite sustaining multiple injuries, he made 30 appearances for Bayern Munich last season.

United is also reportedly interested in signing Manuel Ugarte, Joshua Zirkzee, and Jarrad Braithwaite this summer, in addition to the Holland international.
