Man City instructed to expect FFP punishment; being stripped of titles and forcefully relegated.
After the Toffees were docked ten points by the Premier League, fans voiced their opinions on FFP.
If found guilty of the Financial Fair Play charges brought against them, Manchester City has been warned to expect severe penalties, which may include being forced to resign from the Premier League.
another Premier League team The league last week punished Everton with ten points after it was determined that they had broken financial regulations. It was the most severe punishment ever given to a Premier League team.
The Premier League and UEFA have both been looking into City in recent years; early this year, the Etihad organization was accused of violating FFP regulations 115 times. The nine-year period between the 2009–10 and 2017–18 seasons is covered by the charges.
After the league stated that the alleged breaches had been sent to a commission, the club’s four-year investigation—which had been postponed due to legal challenges—was completed. Should the committee find City guilty, they might face a number of sanctions.
More than 8,000 football fans in the MEN and its sister titles also voiced their opinions after Everton’s shocking result, with 67% of them thinking City will eventually face consequences for FFP-related offenses.
When asked what the club should do in the event that this occurs, 41% of supporters responded that they should also lose points. But 36% of respondents believe the team should be demoted by force from the Premier League, and 23% say the team should lose its trophies.
There seems to be disagreement among supporters across the nation over whether Everton’s punishment was appropriate; just 51% agreed and 49% felt it was unjust.
Despite the fact that the Toffees have lost 10 points and are now back in the Premier League’s relegation zone, 74% of supporters still believe they will make it through the season.
More than half of the supporters (57%) agreed with the league’s Financial Fair Play regulations overall, while only 17% disagreed. It’s interesting to note that 26% of respondents said they understood the regulations in theory but felt that the ones in place are too onerous for clubs.
In their annual report, City made a recent statement regarding the ongoing probe into its finances. According to the report, on February 6, 2023, the Premier League sent several alleged Premier League Rule violations by Manchester City Football Club to a Commission under Premier League Rule W.3.4, in compliance with Premier League Rule W.82.1.
“In February 2023, in response to the charges, the Club issued a public statement that it welcomes the review of this matter by an independent commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position.”
