Manchester City is alleged to have executed a “concrete” acquisition of a player from Paris Saint-Germain.

Manchester City has experienced a relatively uneventful summer thus far; however, it is anticipated that the pace will increase following the conclusion of the Copa America and Euro 2024.

In 2023/24, Pep Guardiola achieved his fourth consecutive Premier League title, and he will be eager to maintain his position as the league’s leading scorer in what may be his final season.

Transfer links to new players have been reported; however, speculation has prevailed thus far.

It is anticipated that winger Savio will be announced in the near future; however, supporters are anticipating the addition of additional new players.

Additionally, it appears that City is interested in a midfielder from PSG.

Le10 Sport, a French publication, has alleged that Manchester City has made a “concrete” move to acquire Manuel Ugarte, a midfielder for Paris Saint-Germain.

The player is currently on Copa America duty with Uruguay and was recently the hero of the hour for his country when he converted the winning penalty in the quarter-final shootout game against Brazil.

The 2023/24 campaign with PSG is alleged to have been lacking in lustre for Ugarte. However, this appears to have not deterred City.

It is purported that they have initiated contact; however, there is opposition.

His future is in the hands of manager Luis Enrique, as Manchester United and Barcelona are also in the equation. The Spaniard will determine whether the £100,000-per-week star remains or departs.

Last summer, Ugarte transferred from Sporting CP, a Portuguese behemoth, to PSG. He has made 37 appearances for the French heavyweights thus far.

Ugarte could serve as an adequate substitute for Rodri.

City may have an interest in PSG midfielder Ugarte, and it is worth noting that the club could benefit from additional depth in the holding midfield position.

Rodri has recently played an excessive amount of football, and it is reasonable to speculate that he may require additional recuperation during the 2024/25 season to prevent the accumulation of fatigue.

City does have Mateo Kovacic, who is capable of playing in that position. John Stones is capable of doing the same.

However, City lacks an additional holding midfielder, and Ugarte undoubtedly qualifies as such.

The star, who has a strong rapport with current City midfielder Matheus Nunes, as he has played with him at Sporting CP, prefers to position himself in front of the defence and is recognised for his exceptional ball distribution. In fact, he is in the 96th percentile for interceptions and the 99th percentile for tackles over the past 365 days, as indicated by fbref data.

It is possible that City are currently considering alternatives, and Ugarte may be someone that Pep has something to offer, as target Bruno Guimaraes’ release clause recently expired.
