Phil Foden, the protagonist of the England team, has temporarily departed the Euro 2024 camp to attend to a “critical family matter” in the United Kingdom. However, it is anticipated that he will return for the first knockout game.

Phil Foden of England has temporarily departed the nation’s Euro 2024 team in Germany to return home.

The 24-year-old attacker for Manchester City participated in 89 minutes of the Three Lions’ abysmal goalless draw with Slovenia on Tuesday, June 25, but is currently en route to the United Kingdom.

A representative of the FA indicated: “Phil Foden has temporarily left the England camp and returned to the UK for a pressing family matter.”

It is anticipated that Foden will return home to attend the birth of his third child. The forward and his companion, Rebecca Cooke, are already the parents of a five-year-old son named Ronnie and a two-year-old daughter named True.

England is scheduled to play their last 16 match against an opponent who will be determined tonight on Sunday, June 30. Foden returned to Manchester after departing the England camp following the stalemate in Cologne.

However, it is anticipated that he will re-join the Three Lions squad in advance of their last 16 match in Gelsenkirchen.

Gareth Southgate, the manager of England, will be eager to have Foden available for his team’s inaugural knockout encounter.

One of the few players to emerge with any distinction following a disastrous group campaign from Southgate’s side is the Premier League player of the season.

Despite only winning one of the three games, England came out on top in Group C.

However, Foden has distinguished himself and been the sole player to inject some energy into an otherwise lacklustre offence.

This is not the first instance in which an England athlete has departed the team’s camp during a tournament.

After his London residence was burglarized during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Raheem Sterling returned home. He returned to the camp prior to the quarterfinal match against France.

Additionally, Fabian Delph withdrew from the squad during the 2018 World Cup in Russia to attend the birth of his third child, only to return later.
