Liverpool told they have found their new Gini Wijnaldum

During his five years at Liverpool, Gini Wijnaldum became a cult idol, and Boudewijn Zenden believes Ryan Gravenberch can emulate his countryman.

Boudewijn Zenden, a former Liverpool midfielder, believes Ryan Gravenberch is capable of matching the exploits of Gini Wijnaldum on Merseyside.

The Reds have a legendary tradition of selecting Dutch favorites, including Dirk Kuyt, Ryan Babel, current captain Virgil van Dijk, and Cody Gakpo. Five years at Anfield, Wijnadlum was an energetic, box-to-box midfielder who became one of Liverpool’s greatest cult figures.

In 2019, his magnificent brace against Barcelona was instrumental in Liverpool’s dramatic Champions League comeback and cemented his place in club history. Another Dutchman, Gravenberch, a summer acquisition, intends to do the same.

At Ajax, the 21-year-old established himself as one of the most promising prospects in Europe prior to his transfer to Bayern Munich a year ago. Gravenberch, who had been eyeing fresh pastures at Liverpool after an unsuccessful transfer to Germany, has already demonstrated his prowess with a number of dynamic displays in the midfield.

Ex-Reds winger Zenden, a fellow countryman, is confident that he can replicate Wijnaldum’s accomplishments with the club. He stated to WSM Casino, “Gravenberch’s tremendous performance at Ajax earned him the opportunity to join Bayern, a monstrous club with a distinct aura.” Although I am uncertain as to why he did not receive as many minutes as he desired, the manager’s systems can sometimes be to blame.

“It is impossible to tell at all times. Although Ryan appears to have adjusted well to the Premier League as a whole, I believe he will require some time to fully adjust. He did not begin playing immediately. He enjoys moving forward and possesses exceptional technique; he is also quite intelligent.

“From my perspective, he resembles Gini Wijnaldum in that he operates in the midfield, has the ability to advance to higher positions on the field, and transfers the ball with ease. “Joyful to see Ryan regaining his footing.”

Zenden further identified Denzel Dumfries, an additional gifted Dutchman, as an individual capable of contending with Trent Alexander-Arnold for the right-back position. Although he is inherently a defender, the 27-year-old is also capable of playing on the flank.

He continued, “During my time at PSV, I collaborated with Dumfries frequently.” “He has an incredible forward drive; perhaps you could compare him to Robertson or Alexander-Arnold exploding forward.” It remains to be seen how Klopp intends to organize his squad.

“I am certain Dumfries’ situation at Inter is ideal, given that they employ three-at-the-back configurations with forward-capable wing-backs. As he covers the entire length of the right flank, he is neither a right back nor a winger.

“During that time, he is at his peak. Creating opportunities through dribbling past opponents does not qualify him as a genuine right winger. He could be a valuable asset to any team, Liverpool included, if he is permitted the necessary latitude in his setup.
