Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk says that having played Manchester United in the past makes the FA Cup quarterfinal on Sunday even more important and stressful.

United wants to stop Jurgen Klopp from going for the quadruple. They are currently second in the Premier League after drawing with Manchester City last weekend. Liverpool has already won their first trophy of the season by beating Chelsea in the Carabao Cup. They are also in the quarterfinals of both the Europa League and the FA Cup.

Erik ten Hag’s team wants to beat their Merseyside rivals on the road for the first time in four games. They have won eight of their last eleven games. As of now, they are not in the running for a European spot and have to play on Sunday to keep their season alive.

Van Dijk says he likes being a part of these high-stakes games, and the next one between England’s two best clubs will be no different. He said, “Strong.” The buildup to the game is also a game in and of itself, but I like being a part of these kinds of games.

“Whenever we play them, it’s tough, and I expect it to be tough again on Sunday.” I think about what we need to do to beat them while they figure out ways to win. Everything is always hard and stressful.

“The history of the games with the two biggest clubs in England brings extra expectation and pressure but why not just go out there and enjoy it, play our game and hopefully go to the next round?”

Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Ryan Gravenberch will all be able to play for Liverpool when they go to Old Trafford. Salah and Szoboszlai both played for 90 minutes in Thursday’s rout of Sparta Prague as they continued to work toward full health. Meanwhile, Gravenberch returned to training after hurting his ankle in February’s Carabao Cup final.
