Lakers Hiring Former Mavericks Award-Winning Coach

The Los Angeles Lakers are continuing to demonstrate their commitment to building around superstar Luka Dončić. Following his signing of a three-year, $165 million contract extension earlier this month, the Lakers have reunited Dončić with his former Dallas Mavericks strength and conditioning coach, Jeremy Holsopple.

Holsopple has officially been hired as the Lakers’ new head strength and conditioning coach, according to reports from Marc Stein. As the Mavericks’ athletic performance director, he was named the NBA’s top strength and conditioning coach in March 2021.

“The Lakers are hiring Jeremy Holsopple as their new head strength and conditioning coach,” Stein reported. “As Dallas’ athletic performance director, Holsopple was named as the NBA’s top strength and conditioning coach in March 2021.”

Holsopple spent the past season away from the NBA. In Dallas, he was released by general manager Nico Harrison amid concerns about his influence within the organization and his close working relationship with Dončić. Following his dismissal, the Mavericks struggled with a wave of injuries across the roster.

This strategic move underscores the Lakers’ short- and long-term goals: keeping their franchise cornerstone—Luka—healthy and well-supported while reinforcing the team’s holistic approach to player performance and conditioning.
