Kyrie’s Happy Place: Mavericks Praised For Making Irving Feel Homely

Kyrie Irving, a standout guard for the Dallas Mavericks, has had a career that is more erratic than other stars’.

He requested a trade after the Cleveland Cavaliers won the championship early, deciding he wanted out of LeBron James’ shadow.

He wasted no time making an impression with the Boston Celtics before signing with the Brooklyn Nets.

After a troubled time with the Nets, the Dallas Mavericks traded minimally for him, casting him as a flight risk; the trade was universally criticized.

But Dallas has become his home, and Kendrick Perkins has praised the city for it. “I applaud him because the one thing about Kyrie is that he’s done it his way,” Perkins noted on the “Road Trippin'” podcast.

I must also commend someone else. Relationships like the one between Nico and Kyrie are important to the Dallas Mavericks.

This is not meant to be a criticism of Cleveland, one could say. Boston or Brooklyn are not being targeted here. Some might even go so far as to say this is Kyrie Irving’s happiest professional moment.

Irving has been forthright about his place in Dallas, and his enthusiasm for the Mavs and his desire to spend the remainder of his career there are evident.

Both on and off the court, he has shown leadership qualities, and following the Luka Doncic deal, he was the lone voice of reason.

Also, he was amenable to letting the Mavericks sign D’Angelo Russell through the taxpayer mid-level exception by opting out of his deal for next season and reducing his salary cap charge by $7 million.

When Will Kyrie Irving Return for the Mavericks?

Reports have conflicted so far on when Irving could return. He has said that he isn’t going to rush things and won’t return until he’s completely healthy and back to full strength.

Although ACL injuries aren’t as strenuous as they used to be, Irving is still an older, smaller guard.

Nico Harrison has said that Irving is ahead of schedule, and Mark Cuban expects Irving to come back, but there still isn’t an updated timeline.

The initial one given is they believed that he could be back by January, but that seems unrealistic given that he didn’t have surgery until April. A return after the All-Star Break seems reasonable for all sides.
