Their season has been going well, and they are now ranked #4 in the AP Top 25 list. People are looking forward to seeing how this early season success will carry over into conference play and then into March Madness. ESPN’s bracketologist, Joe Lundari, has updated his thoughts on the brackets as of December 17th. Kentucky fans will love it.

Along with Auburn and Tennessee, Kentucky is one of the three No. 1 seeds in this group. Six of the top 12 teams in the tournament are from the SEC. This is a nightmare for the people who make the brackets, but a dream come true for the commissioner of the conference.

Overall, Auburn is the number one seed. Tennessee, Iowa State, and Kentucky are the other three number one seeds. This almost makes it a clean sweep of the SEC. This shows how good this league is. In this estimate, they also have 13 teams. That is all well and good, but what really gets Big Blue Nation excited is seeing that Kentucky is the top seed in the west regional. It does get better, though.

If this guess comes true, they will play the winner between Maryland and Arkansas for the eighth and ninth rounds. Yes, Arkansas under John Calipari, which is something that could only be written for March Madness. The Gonzaga Bulldogs are the number two seed in that region. Kentucky has already done well against them.

Most Kentucky fans will not want to say how much they want to be a number one seed in the NCAA Tournament, but it’s been 10 years since they were a one-seed. It was last done in 2015. Kentucky has been without a title for too long. Whether they break their drought this year or next, Mark Pope seems to be the coach who can make them famous again and hang a new flag on the top of Rupp Arena.
