The two-time NBA champion opened up about his thoughts upon hearing the shocking trade on the most recent episode of Dawg Talk with J Mac and Kenny Gaines.
“I knew before everybody, it wasn’t really breaking news for me, but it happened on Father’s Day,” Caldwell-Pope revealed.
My family and I are on vacation right now… “I’m going to retrieve something from my bag, and my phone is vibrating, but I won’t be able to get to it in time,” Caldwell-Pope narrated, adding that the time was precisely 11:30-11:35, which is practically noon.
My agent calls me three or four times in a row, which is ridiculous; I almost never get calls like that, so I’m checking.
Your trade to the Grizzlies was finalised the second I made the call… abrupt shock when the realisation that it is Father’s Day struck me like a tonne of bricks.
“We could have at least waited until Monday; I didn’t want to get this type of news,” he added.
