Kawamura Speaks Out: The Real Reason Behind His Grizzlies Exit

Guard Yuki Kawamura of Japan expressed his desire to play for the Memphis Grizzlies this season, saying that he misses the city.

This 24-year-old point guard had limited playing time in the NBA (22 games) and averaged 1.6 points and 0.9 assists in about 4 minutes per game.

However, he will have another opportunity to show the American market what he can do in the Summer League with the Chicago Bulls.

Speaking with Damichael Cole of the Memphis Commercial Appeal during the Summer League, Kawamura expressed his desire to play in Memphis this next season and his already-present homesickness for the city. “Indeed, Memphis is something I miss,” Kawamura added.

The folks of Memphis are incredibly helpful and friendly. Memphis was also on my list of places to play this year, but work got in the way. For the moment, I’m happy.

Impressive work by the Bulls organization. For me, it’s a great opportunity.

The 5-foot-8 (172 cm) Kawamura is putting together a solid performance in this year’s NBA Summer League with the Bulls, averaging 7.3 points and 5.7 assists in 23 minutes per game.
