Just In: If Georgia football beats Georgia Tech, it will tie an SEC record.

The football game between Georgia and Georgia Tech is very important for many reasons. If they win, they might automatically make the College Football Playoff. A win would also keep the Bulldogs’ confidence going as they head to next weekend’s SEC Championship game.

Also, a win today would be Georgia’s seventh straight win over the Yellow Jackets. That’s one less than Georgia Tech’s record of eight straight wins from 1949–1956, which was the school’s record.

However, Georgia would tie another important record if they beat Georgia Tech on Friday night.

Most wins in a row in SEC history

Georgia has won 30 straight home games, which is a huge streak. Together with Florida, this is the second-longest home win streak in SEC history. Alabama, from 2015 to 2019, won 31 straight games, so this is only one game behind them. To break the tie, Georgia Tech needs to beat them. With that win, they will be one win away from owning the record.

At some point this season, Georgia might even break this mark. Without a doubt, Georgia will get a top four spot and a bye in the first round of the CFP if they win the SEC Championship game next weekend. But if they lose next week, Georgia might get to host a first-round playoff game at Sanford Stadium. Oh, that would be a nice reward for not winning the SEC Championship.

But Georgia will easily break this record next session if they don’t get the chance to do it this year. Next year, they start the season at home against Marshall. This should be a very easy game for Kirby Smart and Georgia to win. To break this record at the start of next season, Georgia would be smart to beat Tech, win the SEC Championship game, and then focus on doing that.
