Just In: Anyone who is a Steelers fan was thinking what George Pickens said.
We had good reason to be worried about the Steelers’ Week 12 game against the Browns when we saw the worrying numbers about their record on the road under Mike Tomlin for Thursday Night Football. Tomlin’s team had lost three straight Thursday Night Football games in Cleveland. They also hadn’t won a road game against the Browns since 2017.
The weather came into play next. In addition to trying to get over their bad track record on Thursday Night Football road games, the Steelers had to play in bad weather. This added one more thing that could make Pittsburgh’s talent edge over a weaker opponent useless.
The Steelers lost the game, and a lot of people can be blamed for it. The game could have gone either way because of Coach Tomlin’s mistakes late in the fourth quarter, and his defense couldn’t get off the field on fourth downs.
Yet, the Steelers were better than the Browns in passing yards, rushing yards, third down conversions, and getting the ball back. Still, Pittsburgh lost this game.
A lot of Steelers fans are quick to say that this was a “trap” game because they played an inferior opponent on a short week and in bad weather, which made the result uncertain.
Someone just said out loud what we were all thinking: “Quiet part.”
When asked about the loss by the media after the game, the Steelers’ best wide receiver said it was because of the weather.
“The weather was so bad,” Pickens told Steelers Now. “Sometimes I don’t think the quarterback could even see.” The weather at the other team’s home field are like that, which kind of helps them. …
It was very, very windy today, which made the game very difficult. The Cleveland Browns are not a good team at all, in my opinion. I believe the weather helped them today.
Conditions like a blizzard, poor visibility, and slick ground definitely played a role in this race. Even though I agree with Pickens in some ways, this is not something you should say in public.
George Pickens needs to be more grown up now that the Steelers lost.
It looks like George Pickens is following a pattern. While the Steelers are winning, we don’t have to talk about his behavior very often. But when they lose, he acts out in a big way.
This was clear on the last play of the game when Pickens got into a fight with Browns defender Greg Newsome. After the game, Newsome went on ‘X’ to call Pickens a “fake tough guy.”
A strong case could be made that Pickens was harmed during the Steelers’ Hail Mary try that won the game. But getting into that fight with Newsome after the game was not appropriate. For the same reason, Pickens got a lot of attention after Week 5’s loss to Dallas when he pulled Cowboys safety Jourdan Lewis down by the facemask.
It would be one thing if his shady deeds on the field at the time were the only problem. But Pickens never seems to know what to say when he talks to the Steelers’ media. Here’s one more example.
We all know the Browns are bad, and we’d like to say the bad field conditions caused the loss, but Pickens needs to be honest and say the Steelers didn’t do enough to get the win.
The things George Pickens said after the Steelers lost to the Titans make Steelers fans crazy.
A lot of Steelers fans will say they knew this was going to happen. Thursday Night Football was doomed to fail. It was clear to you.
The Steelers lost to their division rival Cleveland Browns in Week 12 because of bad weather, bad coaching decisions by Mike Tomlin, and stupid mistakes. The Browns scored a touchdown in the second half to win. Both teams scored a few goals in the second half after the first half was pretty dull and it looked like the game would end with the under.
But for the Steelers attack, it all came down to one last play. They were behind by five points. When quarterback Russell Wilson tried to make a Hail Mary pass, one wide receiver was not at all on the play.
George Pickens was in a good spot to make a play on the ball and try to win the game, but he was more interested in getting into a fight with Browns defender Greg Newsome. Pickens didn’t even look at where the ball was going once.
He chose to get into a small fight with Newsome, which went on even after the time ran out. To no one’s surprise, it was very Pickens. The wide receiver then had the nerve to try to say that the loss was because of bad weather after the game.
“Conditions played a huge, huge part in today’s game,” he said.
It wasn’t a surprise that George Pickens’ statements after the game backfired.
To begin, Pickens’s claim that the weather played a part in the loss was basically an excuse. That also brings up the question of what would happen in the playoffs if it got cold and snowy?
Does Pickens believe that his team isn’t ready for those conditions? What makes him think that these Steelers don’t have as much of a chance when it starts to snow and blow?
Such as if Pickens was done with that. No, he definitely wasn’t. He then said some mean things about the winning team:
“The Cleveland Browns are not a good team at all,” I said. I think the weather today kind of saved them.”
Pickens says that the weather is to blame again and also says that the Browns aren’t a very good football team.
The young wide receiver got more bad news: the Steelers lost to this bad team. It doesn’t matter what he thinks about the Browns. It doesn’t matter that Pittsburgh lost; they still took it.
George, this is the NFL. This means that any team can lose on any given day.
Fans will never be able to stop worrying about Pickens. The wide receiver hasn’t changed much since he first came into the game. He is still having problems with immaturity, uncontrolled feelings, and just plain bad behavior.
In his payback game, the former Steelers receiver gives up under the stress.
Before the Steelers played the Ravens in Week 11, there were a lot of stories to keep an eye on. Both teams’ attacks had played well in the past, so many people thought they would both do well in this game. There were signs that Baltimore’s defense was having trouble, but Pittsburgh’s defense still had a lot of star power to try to slow down the Ravens’ strong offense.
Many people may not have noticed, but Diontae Johnson finally came back to Pittsburgh after being traded in the summer. He was sent to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for Donte Jackson, a cornerback, and a third-day pick. It’s been thought by many that Johnson was fired from the Steelers because he wasn’t a good boss or person, but there could have also been money issues.
The Panthers had to sell some assets before the trade deadline because they were in rebuild mode again after that move fell through. Without a doubt, Diontae was a great loan receiver for any teams in the running for the playoffs who needed to improve. Johnson was sent to Baltimore in exchange for a pick in the fifth round. It looked like a good move at first, but the senior receiver hasn’t done much since he got there.
Diontae Johnson’s game to get back at the Steelers didn’t go well.
But Johnson had a great chance to show the Steelers why they should have never let him go. Fans would have been angry. Their game in Week 11 gave the former star player a lot of great chances to finally add some extra power to Baltimore’s receiving core.
He was almost as quiet as church mice instead. Johnson had a terrible game because he is still having a hard time getting used to his new team.
It was possible for Diontae to make some plays for the Ravens. Johnson had the best chance when Lamar Jackson threw the ball toward the end zone, but he was too far away to make a catch. He might have scored a touchdown or at least put the Ravens offense in a great position to score if he had been able to beat the defender further inside.
Besides that, he didn’t do much else. Johnson was targeted twice that day but didn’t catch a pass. Who knows what’s going on with the now-new Steelers player as he tries to get used to his new team quickly? Johnson has always had trouble being mentally tough, which could be making things worse. Baltimore might not have made the right choice when they bought him if he can’t turn things around.
Also, remember that Johnson will be able to sign with any team he wants after the season. After the Ravens lost, he didn’t say too many bad things about the Steelers. He may want to leave the door open for a possible return to Pittsburgh.
No matter what happens in his life, he will never get back at the black and gold for trading him away this summer.
After a terrible loss to the Browns, here’s how the Steelers did:
That Steelers game was really bad. That’s pretty much what fans feared would happen when they played a weak Browns team. Pittsburgh didn’t seem ready, and it looked like they were just looking forward to ten days off before their next game. Fans of the black and gold always hope that their team can get past their problems when playing weaker teams, but that never happens.
Mike Tomlin won’t let his team play on Thursday nights, especially when they have to go somewhere. They have a bad track record when they have to play away on a Thursday night. That’s a pattern that should be used against Tomlin.
There is still hope for the Steelers with an 8-3 record, but they keep showing why they might not be challengers but rather pretenders.
Steelers’ offense got a D- on their report card.
The Steelers’ attack is having trouble with some things. Russell Wilson may have had good stats in this game, but when you look more closely, he continues to play badly. In the last three or four weeks, he hasn’t really played well. There are certain kinds of hits that he takes that hurt Pittsburgh. That made Chris Boswell take a bad field goal shot early in the game, which he missed.
Besides Calvin Austin III, none of the other targets for the black and gold stood out. It’s been a while since Mike Williams scored, and the offensive line had a hard time stopping Myles Garrett. It was terrible how they didn’t change in the first half. In the NFL, it will be hard to win a game if you can only score 19 points. The fact that they can only score three points in one half has become a huge problem.
A score of C- is given to the Steelers’ defense.
It’s hard to say that the Steelers’ defense is to blame for this loss. But don’t get it wrong—they’re also partly to blame. A lot of people in the league call them elite, but they haven’t shown that they are in key times for Pittsburgh. There have been times when their defense has been able to hold strong in the last few minutes of games when they needed to stop the game.
They played better in the second half, but the Browns’ offense still scored 24 points, even though they were bad. With the way their attack is playing right now, they know that will be hard to beat. T.J. Watt is also to blame for this. He didn’t have as much of an effect on him after Garrett called him out before the fight. Watt needs to get better from now on.
The grade for the Steelers’ special teams is a C-.
The Steelers’ special teams aren’t really to blame, and Boswell did a good job given the conditions. Even though he missed the 58-yard field goal, Tomlin was crazy to think he had a chance to make it in those conditions. Luckily, Boswell didn’t let that bother him, and he made his other two tries, even though it was hard to kick field goals there.
Cordarrelle Patterson is also a kick returner who needs to be talked about. He was brought in to make a difference, but so far this season he hasn’t had a single good return. Up to this point in the schedule, Jaylen Warren has had better results. They only had one kick, and it wasn’t a good one. He’ll probably get better, but there are more important things to worry about than special teams.
The way the Steelers’ media responded to their lackluster loss to the Browns shows that they aren’t worried.
The Pittsburgh Steelers spoke to the media with anger and determination after a tough 24–19 loss to the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night. The divisional matchup was a messy nighttime loss, with an offense that couldn’t get going and started plays slowly.
In his comments after the game, head coach Mike Tomlin was honest and said that Cleveland played better than his team. “They made more plays than we did in the 60 minutes,” Tomlin said. “We took too long to get going, especially at the beginning.” The slow start let Jameis Winston lead an active Browns offense that took advantage of Pittsburgh’s inability to keep drives going.
After going seven quarters without scoring, the Steelers finally got a touchdown when Russell Wilson connected with Calvin Austin III late in the fourth quarter. The touchdown slump had begun in Week 11. However, Cleveland had already built an unbeatable lead by the time Wilson could get the offense going again.
Wilson was pushed all night, but he still managed to throw for 270 yards, one score, and no interceptions despite being sacked four times. Wilson told media that his team needed one or two more plays, referring to the most important parts of the game. The fact that he got along well with Austin III gave them some hope, but it wasn’t enough to make up for the loss.
The Steelers need to fix some big mistakes before they play some tough teams.
The Steelers’ offensive line had a hard time keeping Wilson safe, so the team had to come up with creative answers. For a short time, backup quarterback Justin Fields played and ran three times for 26 yards. Fields’ presence made things less predictable, but his part felt more like an experiment than something important.
Wilson said of the QB changes during the game, “I don’t know when it’s going to happen, but when it does, all I want us to do is win.” Tomlin also said, “The weather didn’t matter.” “We were going to use [Fields] today.”
Even though they lost, the Steelers are still hopeful. With an 8-3 record, they are still in a good situation to make the playoffs, but they know they need to get better in the coming weeks.
“We’re not downhearted, but disappointed,” Wilson said.
Now is when Pittsburgh’s work starts. The team needs to fix the mistakes that caused Thursday’s loss because the playoffs are on the line. As Pittsburgh gets ready for a crucial stretch to secure its postseason hopes, Tomlin’s leadership and the team’s drive will be very important.
