Jose Mourinho was embarrassed at Manchester United, but Ruben Amorim was “willing to take a chance” on the player.

Angel Gomes could have a great comeback to Old Trafford under Ruben Amorim. He used to play for Manchester United and was a young star there.

The big Premier League team let the 24-year-old go four years ago, and he went to Lille. There are, however, rumors that he could be moving back to Manchester after a good loan spell at Boavista and a strong season back in France.

A lot of news sources say that Amorim, the new manager of United, wants to bring Gomes back to the team. And the star player for England U21, whose deal at Lille ends at the end of the season, probably won’t get a high transfer fee.

Gomes has talked in the past about how sad it was to leave United and how mean boss Jose Mourinho was to him at the time. The “Special One” didn’t think highly enough of Gomes to keep him on his team for a long time, and the player left for free in 2020.

“He didn’t think I had played up to standard [in a reserves match] to warrant a place in the first-team squad, and he just really let me know,” stated Gomes. I thought, ‘Why did he do that in front of everyone?’ at the time. Couldn’t he have gently pulled me away?

People on the team told me, “He just wants a reaction from you, don’t let it bother you,” but I didn’t want to hear anything at that time. I hastily went to my room and called my dad and brother. They basically have nothing to say to me. I almost started to cry. I must have been very young.

“When I got older, I realized that Mourinho is always trying to get more out of you.” I believe that the fact that he did that in public showed that he valued me as a player. I most likely needed it.”

Since then, some great games in Portugal and France have shown United what they’ve been missing from the Londoner. Because of this, a cheap return under Amorim, who used to be the manager of Sporting CP, now seems possible.

To do that, though, he’ll have to get past some big problems from his last spell. After Gomes felt ignored near the end of his first stay, that’s what happened.

“It was the hardest time of my career,” he said of his time that Mourinho was manager. “I had no idea what was going on on or off the field.” I had a chat with Solskjaer. I talked to the assistants too, since Kieran McKenna was my teacher when I was under-18. They seemed to want me to stay and go with the flow. They asked me to go on loan, but there wasn’t much set up.

“I thought that since I had spent my whole life at the academy, there would have been a better way for me to move forward.” It was really tough to take that.
