It’s now only the second city after Turin to host all three grand tours. What was the first city?
Today, the first three stages of the 2025 Vuelta a España were revealed. The grand tour of Spain will start in Piedmont, Italy. The Vuelta will start outside of Spain for the sixth time. Turin will become, after Utrecht, the second city to have held all three grand tours: the Vuelta a España, the Giro d’Italia, and the Tour de France.
Only Utrecht is on that list. It was there that Rohan Dennis won the Tour de France grand start in a time trial in 2015. Utrecht is the fourth biggest city in the Netherlands. It was also a part of stage 2 of the Giro in 2010 and the start of the Vuelta a España in 2022, when Remco Evenepoel won the red jersey.
Turin was also a part of this year’s Tour de France on stage 3, which was won by Biniam Girmay. This was before next year’s Vuelta a España. Turin has also been a part of the Giro d’Italia many times, most recently on stage 1 this year, when Jhonatan Navaez beat Tadej Pogacar to win the stage.
