It shocked and amazed Sean Dyche that Everton lost to Southampton because of a red card.

After Jan Bednarek tackled Beto, Sean Dyche said he was “amazed” that the back from Southampton wasn’t sent off.

Everton’s goalscorer had gotten past his defender and avoided getting hit when he tried to stop him. But he couldn’t resist the cynical pull on his hand as he was about to run through on Aaron Ramsdale with the game tied at 0-0.

Referee Andy Madley quickly showed a yellow card, and VAR backed up his decision. Taylor Harwood-Bellis tried to protect his partner as Beto got ready to step in.

This was one of two calls that went against Everton. Beto’s great late goal was also called slightly offside.

Dyche didn’t mind that the goal was called off, but he didn’t understand why Bednarek wasn’t sent off.

He told them, “If you’re offside, you’re offside. I don’t mind that.” However, I am incredibly shocked by the chance for the firing. For people who used to play defence, you think you’re off as soon as you do that. It’s clear that Beto is in his flow because he’s crossing.

“I worry about the game because players who don’t go down and roll around don’t seem to get decisions, but if you do, they do.” As I’ve said many times, players who are trying to stay on their feet get yellow cards. Beto is clearly trying to stay on his feet to score a goal, but he doesn’t do anything and only gets a yellow card.

“Wow…..” I think the defender is a long way off. It’s not clear to me how he’ll get there. I think that is a huge choice in a game like this because they don’t give that.
