It has been reported that 54 years-old Man United coach Erik ten Hag is ‘lining up for new position’ as the manager of Manchester United ‘faces a threat from Zinedine Zidane’.

Erik ten Hag is under a lot of pressure at Manchester United because Zinedine Zidane is reportedly interested in his job and Sir Jim Ratcliffe really likes Roberto De Zerbi.

There are rumors that Erik ten Hag has friends back at his old team Ajax, even though his job as manager of Manchester United has been under a lot of scrutiny lately.

United beat Nottingham Forest 1-0 in the FA Cup on Wednesday, setting up a quarterfinal match with Liverpool. However, last weekend’s loss to Fulham has put the Dutch manager under more pressure. They lost 2-1 in the Premier League, which was their tenth loss this season. They also got knocked out of the Champions League early.

It’s interesting that new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe hasn’t officially backed Ten Hag, whose first season helped United win the League Cup, their first trophy in six years. MEN Sport has learned that the founder of Ineos isn’t sure about Ten Hag and would rather hire Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi if he has to fire Ten Hag.

More news sources say that the British millionaire and his team at Ineos want to bring Zinedine Zidane to Old Trafford. Since the end of his second stint at Real Madrid in 2021, the French great has not had a job.

For Ten Hag, this could mean going back to Ajax, where he made his name as a boss. It is said in The Independent that Ajax would love to have the 54-year-old back.

Ten Hag won three Eredivisie titles and two KNVP Cups with Ajax before going to Manchester. He played there for five years. The 2019 Champions League final was almost won by Ten Hag’s team, but Tottenham made a late comeback in Amsterdam and stopped them.

The 2023–24 season has been tough for Ajax. They are currently in fifth place, 30 points behind the toppers PSV. The Amsterdam club also lost in the group stage of the Europa League. They will now play Aston Villa in the last 16 of the Europa Conference event.

Maurice Steijn was fired in October because Ajax had a bad start and was near the bottom of the league. John van ‘t Schip is now in charge of the team. Ten Hag has been criticized for bringing in players from the team he used to play for.
