Everton
In the middle of a contract dispute, Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s new comments about Everton cause confusion.
Because Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s contract situation is still going on, his latest comments about Everton have caused fans on Merseyside a lot of confusion.
The Toffees’ X page [23 October] quotes a part of the England striker’s club chat that is said to be in the matchday program for the game against Fulham on October 26.
The present deal for Calvert-Lewin ends in the summer, and he hasn’t been able to agree to new terms yet because his move to Newcastle United fell through before the season started.
Although talks are still going on, clubs are on high watch, including the famous Italian team Juventus [Corriere dello Sport, 17 October].
“If you had told me when I joined the club that this is where I’d be in eight years, I think I’d be pretty happy with that,” the forward said.
What happens when Dominic Calvert-Lewin leaves Everton in 2025?
For Everton fans, this could seem like a contradiction: if he was so thrilled to be the Toffees’ number nine, he would have probably extended his contract by now.
At 27, the forward has a future to think about, and as the saying goes, his next deal is huge and could make or break his career.
While it is pretty normal for a player his age to be in their ninth season at the same club, which shows that he clearly loves and respects the Toffees, it is still an oddly committed statement to make with eight months left on his contract.
It will only be a few weeks before Calvert-Lewin can sign a pre-contract deal with a foreign club for July 2025. This has caught the attention of clubs like Juventus, which is a desirable destination for any player.
But Everton will hope they can come to an agreement with their star player before the end of the year so they don’t lose him for nothing.
