In an effort to make more money, Dan Friedkin wants to buy more land near Bramley-Moore Dock in Everton.
To make more money after Everton moves into their new stadium, The Athletic says that the Friedkin Group will probably try to buy more land close to Bramley-Moore Dock.
The outlet’s website reported on October 25 that Matt Slater said the Americans probably wouldn’t have bought the club if they weren’t planning to move into the new stadium by the water.
For the potential new owners to get the most out of leaving Goodison Park, they need to turn the area into something that makes money when Everton isn’t playing at home.
To “increase the club’s footprint” at the docks, the Friedkin Group wants to build entertainment and leisure facilities. They are “most likely” to try to buy land around Nelson Dock, which is right next to Bramley-Moore Dock.
This summer, Everton will leave Goodison Park.
Making real plans to build around the club’s new home seems to be another good sign for the health of the takeover as a whole.
When Dan Friedkin chose to buy the Toffees, Slater had said on September 26 that this possibility had been one of the things that worried him.
But if clear plans are starting to come forward now, it looks good for the American to take over for Farhad Moshiri soon.
This is also a good sign for the area around the new stadium and for the club’s ability to make more money, since it has been hit harder than any other Premier League team by low profits and long-term debt.
The rich Roma manager has already put an end to Everton’s worries about running out of money, which has been a problem for a few years. The American has already promised to pay for the finishing touches on the stadium and help pay for running costs before his takeover is official [Liverpool Echo, 1 October].
Because of the way spending is limited in the Premier League, it will take a much bigger change to how things work on Merseyside before the Toffees can fully gain.
Finance expert Kieran Maguire said on October 1 that a new stadium naming rights deal would be a big step in the right direction. He also said on October 22 that the Friedkins will be looking for a “big reveal” before the team moves in for the next season.
But the buildings around the dockside project will give Everton fans more ways to get involved outside of games, which will improve the club’s PSR balance.
At this point, plans look good, but the new owners will still have to find a mix between making as much money as possible and just getting rid of fans for profit reasons.
