Erik ten Hag was fired, and Lee Carsley has been tipped as a surprise candidate to take over as manager of Manchester United. Football legend Gary Lineker has heard “really good” stories about his time in charge of the England team.

Lineker talked about the former Everton midfielder as a possible option for the job on the Rest is Football podcast. However, he did point out one problem: Carsley wasn’t good at dealing with the media for England. These are his words:

“Let me list a name. I think it would be interesting, and it’s clear that he’s a great coach.”

“Lee Carsley, who they probably won’t think of, but he’s a creative coach whose team plays very attacking football.” From what I heard at England, the players thought he was great, interesting, and deeply thought out about the game.

“The one thing he struggled with a little bit, I suppose, was the media side of things.”

Three of the four games Carsley managed England in after Gareth Southgate quit in the summer were wins.
