In 2025, Red Bull says this about “grandpa” Roglic: “Why wouldn’t he?”
When it comes to grand tours, Tadej Pogacar, Jonas Vingegaard, Remco Evenepoel, and Primoz Roglic are known as the “big four.” When these riders queue up, the other riders don’t have much of a chance. One big difference, though, is that Roglic is clearly older than the others. His team, Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe, says that’s not a problem, though.
The team’s Head of Performance, Dan Lorang, is sure that Roglic will be able to compete with the younger stars next year. “Primoz can still be there with Pogacar and Evenepoel,” he said to Velo. “If we do the right things to help him get ready, why can’t he?” We can see that Primoz’s numbers are still good, if not better.
It was the end of October when Roglic turned 35. This makes him eight years older than Vingegaard and eleven years older than Evenepoel. Some people would call him the group’s “grandpa.” Lorang makes it clear that “his age doesn’t really mean anything.” “He’s eight to ten years older than Pogacar and those guys, but he’s the same as them as a cyclist.” It’s important to note that he has likely been riding a bike for the same amount of time as them. Primoz’s age doesn’t seem to affect him like it does other sports.
He said: “Primoz hasn’t reached his ceiling yet”
Although he will be missing an important teammate next season, the Vuelta a España winner seems to be getting better with age, almost like Benjamin Button in real life. He’s still up against the best. “It’s about how much space there still is for development,” said Lorang. In cycling, Primoz hasn’t hit his limit yet because he’s still “young.” Unlike Evenepoel, Pogacar, he still has room to grow. We honestly think he can still get better. That’s clear from his numbers, and it makes us feel good about the future.
