Goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo of FC Lorient says he turned down Manchester United’s offer to sign him when Erik ten Hag was manager because he wanted to join a team that could win titles.

The Reds won the League and FA Cups while Ten Hag was in charge of United. But trying to win the Premier League was a lot harder, and it cost the Dutchman his job in the end.

Making changes to United’s goalkeepers was another tough task. It was clear right away that David de Gea didn’t fit with Ten Hag’s plans, and there weren’t many other players who could step in.

In the end, Altay Bayindir was hired to play as a backup for Andre Onana, but Mvogo was talked to before Bayindir came. After two years on loan at PSV Eindhoven, the Swiss player was given the chance to join United in the summer of 2022.

That choice was never going to happen, though, according to the 30-year-old player, who now plays in the French second division. According to Blick, “Manchester United wanted me.”

“That wasn’t an option for me, though.” Being unable to be on the pitch makes me unhappy.

I want to enjoy my time on the pitch with my friends and fans right now. I want to compete for prizes and, if possible, win them.

Over the course of his career, the custodian has played for Young Boys and RB Leipzig and won the Dutch Cup and Holland Super Cup with PSV. The latest standings in the French second division show that Lorient are one point behind Paris FC.
