“I have repeatedly stated that Erik ten Hag lacks football knowledge…Why should he sell that nice player? Gary Neville says Manchester United is ‘frightened to death’ of selling £58m player
Manchester United is “frightened to death” that Anthony Martial would depart for other reasons, according to Gary Neville.
Martial has struggled since joining United in 2015, largely due to fitness issues. The French international showed promise but failed to sustain it.
Martial may leave United in the summer of 2020 after scoring 19 goals since September 2020 and missing substantial time. In Saturday’s 1-0 loss at Newcastle, the 28-year-old made a rare start but was awful until the hour.
Neville told Stick To Football, “They were scared to death of him going somewhere and doing something.” They feared death because he has no talent.
“Every manager has the same problem with him. They all wondered, “Is he going to hurt us?” At that point, you just…
The organization is considering extending Martial’s contract by a year in June. Taking the striker’s salaries off the books may be preferable than protecting his value.
The former Monaco midfielder, who might have cost United up to £58 million in 2015, played for Sevilla for six months on loan in 2022 but scored only once in fifteen matches.
He was for sale in the summer, but no team bid. Erik ten Hag wants to strengthen his attacking options again in the next two transfer windows after investing £72 million on Rasmus Hojlund.
