Grizzlies’ Rookie in Jeopardy? Latest Injury Update Before Summer League

The recent injury report of the 2025 Memphis Grizzlies overall pick may impact his participation in the Summer League.

In order to leave the 2025 NBA Draft with Washington State wing Cedric Coward, the Memphis Grizzlies negotiated a slew of trades.

Their first trade was with the Orlando Magic, who sent guard Desmond Bane along with several draft choices, as well as Cole Anthony and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

The Memphis Grizzlies traded up to the Portland Trail Blazers’ 11th overall pick in order to acquire Coward with two of those picks, including the 16th overall pick.

The wing, who had a meteoric ascent during the Draft, has their high ambitions.

Many teams’ rookies and younger players make their NBA Summer League debuts during this tournament.

Fans of the Grizzlies may have to be patient until they get to witness the new first-round rookie play.

Coward is “considered doubtful to participate in summer league, as he continues his rehab,” writes Drew Hill of the Daily Memphian, putting his participation in the NBA Summer League in question.

Coward has a shot at playing in the Summer League since he is on the team’s roster.

Being able to get to know some of the players, like Cam Spencer and Jaylen Wells, and start learning the playbook will be a huge benefit to him.

In November, Coward hurt his non-shooting shoulder, tearing the rotator cuff and partially tearing the labrum.

He is currently in recovery. As a result, he played in just six games for Washington State this season. However, he impressed enough to commit to Duke via the transfer portal.

He then decided to remain in the NBA Draft and proceeded through the Lottery.
