Free agency starts on June 30 at 5 p.m. CT, which means that the NBA trade wire is about to get even busier.
Players from other teams can be talked to by teams, but contracts can’t be signed until July 6. Since the NBA Finals are over, teams have been able to talk to their own free agents about making moves.
There are times when the Memphis Grizzlies don’t make a lot of moves during free agency, but there are signs that this summer will be different.
A lot of important players for the team are becoming free agents, but it’s also a time of change.

Can Memphis Grizzlies complete Jaren Jackson Jr. deal?
Jaren Jackson Jr. technically isn’t a free agent, but the result of his potential contract extension is a major part of the offseason. Memphis likely would need to renegotiate and extend Jackson’s contract to secure a deal.
When the Grizzlies were eliminated from the playoffs, this felt like a layup. However, multiple decisions have put them in a position where they currently don’t have the money to get a deal done.
With the trade for Bane and the move up to get Cedric Coward in the 2025 NBA draft, the Grizzlies have $3 million less in cap room.
If Memphis doesn’t make more cap room before the new league year starts on June 30 at 5 p.m. CT, it will be harder and harder to sign Jackson this offseason.
General manager Zach Kleiman said Memphis wants to sign restricted free agent Santi Aldama after he had a career year. Aldama’s scoring and shooting would be major additions for the Memphis bench, but he could get expensive.
There has been reported interest from other teams on Aldama. Considering there’s no starting spot in Memphis for Aldama, the price could get too expensive if teams get aggressive.
