Goodbye No. 56, Hello No. 59 As Grizzlies Pull Off Second Round Trade.

The NBA draughted Jahmai Mashack. The basketball player from Tennessee was selected by the Houston Rockets with the 59th and final choice in the 2025 NBA Draft.

However, there have been rumours that he could be traded to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Having won nine games for Tennessee in the NCAA Tournament, Mashack was named the program’s all-time leading scorer.

Under Mashack’s leadership, the Vols won 109 games and remained in the rankings all four years. On March 1, he made one of the most iconic shots in Tennessee history—a 3-pointer that ended the game against Alabama.

During his career, Mashack shot 34.3% from outside the arc and averaged 4.2 points and 2.8 boards per game.

While he was a senior, he averaged 4.8 boards and 6.0 points per game.

After Chaz Lanier, the Detroit Pistons selected him with the 37th overall choice in the 2025 NBA Draft, he became the second guard from Utah to be selected.

Coach Rick Barnes has had multiple players selected in the NBA Draft three times while coaching Tennessee, and he becomes the tenth player selected by Barnes.

Jahmai Mashack scouting report with Memphis Grizzlies

The 6-foot-4 Mashack could never be defined by a box score. Mashack was a defensive force, craving the opportunity to guard an opponent’s best perimeter player.

He was never limited to one player, though, and took on any and all challenges defensively.

He studied film obsessively, memorized scouting reports and marshaled Tennessee’s elite defense.

He was named to the All-SEC Defensive team as a senior.

Likewise, Mashack could never be defined only as a basketball player.
He received the Torchbearer award in March, which is the highest honor conferred a UT student can receive and recognizes overall excellence.

Despite having a small role as a freshman, the actor from California had no intention of transferring. During his sophomore and junior years, he began acting immediately.

Despite the fact that it affected his role, he enthusiastically welcomed transfers like Dalton Knecht and Lanier, even helping to bring both to Tennessee.
