Glasgow City humiliate Queen’s Park to level up on points with SWPL leaders Rangers and Hearts.
Glasgow City defeated Queen’s Park 8-0 to achieve parity with the champions of the SWPL, Rangers and Hearts.
Rangers and Celtic were absent from the weekend league games due to their participation in the Women’s Champions League over the preceding five days. This presented an opportunity for City to capitalise.
Glasgow secured the advantage after Natalia Wrobel converted a penalty kick following Sofia Maatta’s assist.
In first-half added time, Queen’s Park went further behind as Lisa Forrest scored.
Nicole Kozlova converted a penalty that City were awarded following the break. Maatta tallied two goals in a fast succession.
Aleigh Gambone completed her hat-trick by adding her name to the list of scorers before Kozlova scored two more.
Aberdeen and Dundee United each earned a point from their 1-1 draw in the northeast, while Partick Thistle was a comfortable 4-0 victor on the road against Motherwell.
The Spartans secured their inaugural victory of the season by defeating Montrose 3-0. The points were secured for Jack Beesley’s team by goals from Keira Chuter, Robyn McCafferty, and Erin Rennie.
In Friday’s Edinburgh derby, Hearts achieved a 4-0 victory over their hosts, Hibernian, to equalise the points with Rangers, despite having an inferior goal difference. City is currently in third place, two points ahead of Celtic, who, like Rangers, have a game in hand.
