Former Manchester City player sends message to the Premier League as the Blues await the results of the FFP investigation.
On Friday, Everton suffered a 10-point deduction while Manchester City awaited the results of an investigation into their purported Financial Fair Play violations.
Former Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips is of the opinion that despite the ongoing investigation into the club’s alleged 115 violations of FFP regulations, the club should not be deprived of any Premier League titles.
In response to Everton’s 10-point deduction on Friday, some demanded that Premier League executives penalize City severely if they were to be found culpable of any violations. The Blues have categorically denied any improper conduct.
City have accumulated seven Premier League titles in the past decade, five of which were won under the leadership of Pep Guardiola. As a result, the Blues have emerged as the preeminent force in English football. Wright-Phillips is adamant that none of their championships should be revoked, as he does not believe that any team that finished in second place to City would be interested in receiving the championship.
“I do not believe it would be fair to deprive Manchester City of any of their previous honors if they were to be found guilty of any of the charges against them,” he told NewBettingOffers.
“I do not believe organizations would want to take those trophies away from City; doing so would be unfair. They would not perceive themselves as deserving them in good faith.
“Irrespective of the circumstances surrounding the initial revelation of these allegations off the field, the management of the team and the performance of the players remained crucial in order to secure those championships.” Notwithstanding events occurring off the field, nothing should be deducted from the collective efforts of the club’s managers, players, and supporters. They are the driving force behind the club’s current success.
“I believe that regardless of what happens to City, the fans will remain united.” Their supporters remained even when they were in a precarious position in Division Two, and I do not believe that will alter any time soon.
“At this time, all they need to do is continue progressing on the field and negotiate that bridge when the opportunity presents itself.” They have not yet been found guilty. As of yet, no events have transpired; therefore, their resistance indicates that they hold the belief that they have not committed any wrongdoing.
